What type of scrapbook should I be looking for?
Me and my friends want to make a scrapbook starting now (freshman year) until senior year. We wanted to start it to remember and to show us growing up. We don’t know anything about scrapbooks. We have a list of what we want to put into it things like : photos, notes, a necklace, stories, and stuff like that. We sort of want one like the book in the Ya-ya sisterhood (if you have seen that movie maybe you’ll understand) Do you have any recommendations?

For a project like this where there is not a definite size in mind, you would be better off with an album that can expand. These are kind of a first cousin to a 3-ring binder, but nicer. You can really stack a lot of pages in one. If you end up exceeding its original capacity, you can spit the work up without damaging the pages into a couple of books, or even one for each year! I would definitely go with the large format 12 X 12 so that you have lots of room for pictures and mementos.
Make sure you have a good printer. Look into something like the Kodak printers that use pigments instead of ink. Pigments are far more stable and much less expensive. Each photo will cost you less and your photos will stay in good shape for a far longer period of time, and it is much cheaper than taking them somewhere to be processed. And it is more instantaneous. Also, look into one of you owning a piece of decent photo manipulation software like PhotoShop or other.
Be sure to collect a few of all kinds of stickers, labels, etc. Check out the local hobby shops like Michael’s and JoAnn’s. Both offer coupons that you can print on-line. There are some really good on-line sites where you can buy themed kits that will save you money and give you some good ideas. And don’t forget the shopping channels. They have clearance items that you can’t possibly duplicate the items for the price. Have fun.

I love all the suggestions Stargazer has given you. You may also like to see how other people have started to make a scrapbook. I have a few pages on my site here that may help you decide how you want to do it, and maybe give you some tips and techniques you could use for some of your pages:

You may have some questions about paper craft tools, adhesives and techniques You will find a lot of ideas and instructions on PaperCraftCentral as well :)
Another thing to think about is to check out your local craft stores and see if they run scrapbooking classes in real life. Then you can see people making albums, using the tools and materials, and can decide what you like for your album from there.
Something else that may help you is to choose a few sketches to plan out your album. Places like Page Maps can help with sketches:

Scrapooking is very personal and a lot of fun. Enjoy the journey!
